Beautiful text Maïlys, you really manage to convey the meaning and power of these traditions. Reminding us of what keeps us together. It made me reflect on my own roots that are spread between France and Switzerland. I realize traditions were lost along the way, but I'm building new ones with my children here in Schaffhausen. Funnily, light is often involved.

Thank you Joanna! I love that you make light a part of the new traditions that you’re building with your children. What do you know? Lanterns?

Yes, one of them is making lanterns out of carved large turnips (to celebrate the end of harvest, I think). It's mainly for children, who will process in the darkened streets of the villages. Then I also love setting Lumignons on window sills. Many do it outside of the house during the advent period. Something I'd like to do more of, as it makes coming home at night so wonderful. So rather little rituals than real traditions.

I find little rituals often more meaningful than traditions because they're even more personal as you get to create them.
